Intermediate Band Student Audition Information

Intermediate Woodwind & Brass Requirements Scale & Range Requirements Solo Requirements
Intermediate Percussion Requirements (see all 3 choices below: Timpani, Mallets or Battery Percussion) Timpani: timpani audition study with tuning, timpani solo, timpani sightreading - Audition Study - Solo Requirements - *Timpani players are eligible to be accepted to play timpani parts - Audition Host Site Provides: 4 timpani with tuning gauges - 32", 29", 26", 23". Tuning gauges will be covered for the Timpani Audition Study and during the initial tuning for the solo. - Student Brings to Audition: timpani mallets
Mallets: mallet scales, mallet solo, mallet sightreading - Scale & Range Requirements - Solo Requirements - *Mallet players are eligible to be accepted to play mallet parts - Audition Host Site Provides: 3.5 octave xylophone and 4.3 octave marimba, both with Kelon bars. Students may bring and audition on their own mallet instrument if they prefer. - Student Brings to Audition: mallets
Battery Percussion (2 components: BOTH Snare & Traps) 1. Snare Drum: snare rudiments, snare solo, snare sightreading 2. Traps: traps rudiments, keyboard percussion etude - Battery Perc Snare Drum Rudiments - Battery Perc Traps Rudiments - Solo Requirements - PLEASE NOTE - students must prepare BOTH the Snare Drum Solo and the Keyboard Percussion Etude from Solo Requirement list - Sight-Reading will be done on the Snare Drum ONLY - *Battery percussionists are eligible to be accepted to play snare drum, traps percussion and small mallet parts as per the needs of the repertoire - Audition Host Site Provides: bass drum, xylophone, music stands and desk for use as a traps table. Students may bring and audition on their own instruments from the above list if they prefer. - Student Brings to Audition: snare drum, crash cymbals, triangle, tambourine, plus all sticks, mallets, and beaters and towels/carpet squares.
