Dear NJSMA Members:
The positions of Treasurer & Corresponding Secretary / Publicity Chair are up for election this year. These positions are for 2 years and start in July 2026.
Section 5. The Publicity Chair shall be responsible for receiving, reproducing and distributing communications pertaining to the business of the association. They shall maintain complete and up-to-date mailing lists of all active members in Region I.
Section 6. The Treasurer shall be responsible for executing all financial transactions of the association. They will report transactions at NJSMA meetings. They shall have charge of all funds of the association, shall deposit them in the bank in the name of the organization and shall disperse them as authorized by the executive committee or by special authorization of the President. An annual report shall be filed at the Spring general membership meeting. The deadline to submit your name for consideration is Wednesday, April 22, 2026. All prospective candidates should email a brief bio and picture that will be sent to the membership. Although strongly recommended, candidates do not need to be present but should try to attend the PD Day on June 2, 2026.
Here are the revised NJSMA Bylaws (2026) with language regarding Elections: ARTICLE IV - Elections Section 1. The President will present a nominating committee to the executive committee for approval. The nominating committee will consist of current executive board members. Election of officers will take place electronically and take place the second week of May. The election window will remain open for 2 weeks. Winners will be announced at the Spring General Membership Meeting.
Section 2. The duties of the nominating committee shall be to prepare a slate of nominees as needed for the various offices of the association to be presented to the membership two weeks prior to the elections. The membership will receive an electronic bio and statement on intentions for running. Nominations will be taken from the floor ONLY if there are NO applicants. Elections will take place electronically at the June PD Meeting.
Section 3. Nominations for any office may be made from the membership up to two weeks prior to the beginning of the election process. These will be added to the slate presented by the nominating committee.
Section 4. To be elected, a candidate must receive a plurality of the vote.
Section 5. Should the office of President be vacated during the first year of their elective term, the Immediate Past President shall assume the duties of the President until the term of office expires. If the office of the President is vacated during the second year of their elective term, the President-Elect shall assume the duties of the President for the remainder of the vacated term and continue to serve as President for the two-year term to which they were elected. If there is a local, state or nationwide event that prevents any of the ensembles to run as expected, the executive board of the NJSMA will have the right to adjust the following procedures to comply with safety guidelines: Rehearsal Schedules, Instrumentation, Structure of the Ensembles & Audience Capacity
